The Executive Board

Emely Miranda-Aguilar – Editor-in-Chief

Emely Miranda-Aguilar is a senior at the University of Maryland, majoring in journalism and minoring in French studies. Emely joined SBS in her first year at UMD as a copy editor and became copy chief in her junior year, and is excited to lead the publication and provide a voice for student journalists and the stories they cover. In addition to her role at SBS, Emely is president of the university’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and has written and copy edited for multiple student and local news publications, such as The Diamondback, La Voz Latina and Streetcar Suburbs News. Emely was an audience engagement and social media editor at Capital News Service and recently interned with U.S. News & World Report as an education reporter.

Ashna BalroopManaging Editor

Ashna Balroop is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, double-majoring in journalism and government/politics. Ashna started at SBS her freshman year as a staff writer, and then became co-general assignment and news editor. She is excited to work with other student journalists to further the publication’s mission. Outside of SBS, Ashna is a staff reporter for The Black Explosion and freelances for the Greenbelt News Review. In the past, she covered Maryland state politics for WMUC Radio and served as a reporting intern for the Long Island Press, a digital news and lifestyle publication.

Alex Burke – News Editor

Alex Burke is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, from central New Jersey. Alex is double-majoring in journalism and government & politics, and joined SBS in the fall of her freshman year as a staff writer. Outside of SBS, Alex also works as a copy editor for The Diamondback. She is passionate about politics and student-driven journalism, and is excited to continue growing as a reporter while contributing to SBS.

Clare RothMultimedia Editor

Clare Roth is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in Journalism and minoring in history. She’s from Raleigh, North Carolina, and joined SBS at the beginning of her sophomore year as a staff writer before becoming multimedia editor. Outside of SBS, Clare also works as a junior staff writer for The Diamondback and volunteers as a production crew member at Capital News Services’ broadcast bureau. She previously interned at CBS 17 News in Raleigh over the summer, where she learned to produce and write on-air news stories. Clare hopes to combine her love of news writing with collaborating with other passionate journalists to continue the publication’s goal of shining a light on underrepresented stories at Maryland. 

Andrew Mollenauer Features Editor

Andrew is a journalism graduate student at the University of Maryland. He’s from Kensington, MD, and earned his undergraduate degree in journalism at Penn State, but he’s a proud traitor who bleeds red and yellow on game day. Andrew’s strengths are feature writing and copy editing. His past experience includes feature writing and beat reporting for the Altoona Mirror and copy editing for The Diamondback. Andrew also has a year of experience with SBS, for which he freelanced before becoming a staff writer and leading our newsletter. He aspires to pursue copy editing and pagination professionally and is excited to work with SBS writers in pitching compelling human-interest stories to share with the community.

Trevor Gomes – Copy Chief

Trevor is a junior journalism major at the University of Maryland. He’s from Columbia, MD, and he joined Stories Beneath the Shell as a copy editor when he was a freshman. He focuses on sports journalism and ultimately aspires to be a beat writer in the future. Trevor interned at Field Level Media and PressBox this past summer, and currently works as the recruiting beat reporter for The Diamondback and a managing editor for Terrapin Sports Central. He hopes to help editors learn the conventions of journalistic writing and hone their attention to detail.

Charlotte OrmondCoGeneral Assignment Editor

Charlotte is a junior at the University of Maryland, where she is double-majoring in journalism and government. Originally from the Philadelphia suburbs, she joined SBS during her sophomore year as a staff writer. In that role, she covered a wide range of campus events and issues, with a particular interest in arts, culture and student politics. After graduation, Charlotte hopes to pursue a career in video journalism at a national news organization. This past summer, she interned with the Ryan Seacrest Foundation at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Outside of academics, she is a member of Delta Gamma Beta Sigma and enjoys reading, hiking and making music.

Stella Garner – CoGeneral Assignment Editor

Stella is a senior at the University of Maryland, majoring in journalism with a minor in digital storytelling and poetics. A transfer student originally from Las Vegas, Stella began with SBS as a copy editor during the Fall 2024 semester. She has interned in the United States Senate and at Baltimore Magazine, and also contributes to The Diamondback as the publication’s tabloids editor. Outside of school, Stella enjoys performing with the University of Maryland Drumline and the Gamer Symphony Orchestra.

Miller Rogers-TetrickSocial Media Editor

Miller Rogers-Tetrick is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in Journalism. He’s from Medellin, Colombia, and joined SBS at the end of his freshman year as a staff photographer before becoming social media editor. Outside of SBS, Miller also works as a Spanish translator for the Diamondback and an entertainment writer for The Campus Trainer. Miller is committed to using photography and storytelling to spotlight underrepresented voices within the Maryland community.

Anika StikeleatherPhoto Editor

Anika Stikeleather is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in journalism and human development. Anika joined SBS in her first semester as a staff photographer before transitioning to photo editor by the end of her freshman year. Originally from Baltimore, Anika recognizes the role photos play in amplifying community stories and is excited to expand SBS’s visual work this year. Around campus, Anika serves as vice president of the university’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and as a public relations research assistant at the University’s Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention.
