Marathon Deli relocates around the corner from the original location

Marathon Deli relocated around the corner from its original location on Oct. 8.

The restaurant was formerly off of Lehigh Road and moved just around the corner off of Route One.

“It’s amazing I love it,” Leilani Blunt, an employee at Marathon Deli, said.

The restaurant decided to move locations after a redevelopment project was in the works to tear down the shopping center.

Blunt said that she has been working at Marathon Deli for about a year and although she was excited about the move, it was bittersweet.

“I think business is pretty much the same, maybe a little bit busier because everybody wants to see the new building,” Blunt said.

Junior journalism major Nicole D’Costa said that she visited the new Marathon Deli location with friends last week.

“I thought it was really spacious and more modern looking and a more organized way of ordering,” D’Costa said. “I liked the ‘homey’ aspect of the old location but I think the new one is a better and easier way of getting food.”

Blunt said that the menu remained mostly unchanged, but ice cream and milkshakes were added. Like D’Costa, Blunt said that one of her favorite parts of the new location is the decorations.

Junior economics major Jordy Lesnik said she also visited Marathon Deli’s new location with a friend. Lesnik said that she was excited that ice cream is being sold.

“I think they did a great job,” Lesnik said. “It’s much nicer than the old Marathon. It has more seating and now they sell ice cream.”

Lesnik said that she feels the new location is more convenient because she walks along Baltimore Avenue more often instead of going to the shopping center where it was previously located.
