Student perspectives on going back to in person after a year of online

by Eva Sanchez

According to the University’s COVID Vaccine Information Dashboard, all eligible students who are planning to return to campuses this fall are required to be vaccinated. UMD has been vaccinating students since the week of April 8th.

Through the week of April 25 to May 1, 56.2% of UMD students are self reporting that they are fully vaccinated. 73.8% of students have self reported that they have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

There has also been an update in the mask mandate. The CDC and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan have stated that those who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks outside unless it is a crowded setting.

With more people being vaccinated and restrictions being lifted, most classes at the university will be back to being in-person. What are students looking forward to the most about returning to in-person classes? Is there anything that they’re going to miss from being online?
