Student Entertainment Events held a karaoke event on March 4 titled “SEE Karaoke Night” where students could queue up their favorite songs and sing by themselves or with a group.

Audience members light up the venue with their phone flashlights as a student sings “Fireflies” by Owl City.

The event, advertised to students on social media and through their official website as “a night of singing (either on or off-key), performance and all of the razzle and dazzle of the late-night out,” was held at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union in the evening. The room where the event was held was illuminated by multicolored ambient lights and featured couches and bean bags for students to lounge on as they enjoyed performances.

In the back of the room, tables were stacked with snacks, refreshments and pamphlets advertising upcoming events held by SEE.

While each student that attended got to sing at least once (sometimes with SEE members joining in), others took the initiative and sang multiple times.

Freshman finance major Leo Osei’s favorite song from the event was Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Osei sang the song with three other students.

“I thought that karaoke could be pretty fun, and it turned out to be exceedingly fun,” Osei said. “It was super non-judgmental, and when I walked in and sang ‘Let It Go’ to start, everyone was hype.”

Other artists whose songs students performed throughout the night included blink-182, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Mitski and Paramore.

“I got to pretty much every [karaoke event] on campus,” said junior art education major Rhyme Pretl-Drummond, whose favorite song they performed was Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” “[SEE Karaoke Night] was probably one of the most fun karaoke events I’ve been to.”

The night ended with CeeLo Green’s “Forget You,” where nearly everyone joined in to sing, including freshman psychology major Ross Sawilowsky.

“People were very hyped up and carrying each other along,” Sawilowsky said later. “It was a good time.”
