UMD and College Park Host First Technology Literacy Workshop since 2020

Eleven University of Maryland students from the College Park Scholars program gathered in College Park City Hall on Saturday morning to host a tech literacy workshop for College Park residents.

It was the first tech workshop since the pandemic started, and the fourth one overall, said junior mechanical engineering major Andrew Rosenblatt, who helped organize the event.

“I’m basically computer illiterate,” joked Robin Benfer, who attended the workshop with plenty of questions for the students about how to use her computer and phone.

She said she was very satisfied with the help she received from the students and rated her experience 20 out of 10.

“The people working here are wonderful,” she said.

Siratchat Onnuch, who came looking for help on how to use apps, agreed.

“I learned a lot,” he said.

Vasundhara Bagchi, who volunteered at the event, said she would volunteer again if she could.

“I really enjoyed the experience,” the freshman computer science major said.

Rosenblatt, who organized the event, said the event is important because students get to help more than just their families.

“It’s really a nice thing we get to do,” he said.
