Student Swifties compete in Taylor Swift trivia

Students “sprung into Stamp” to show off their Taylor Swift knowledge during TEST-udo Trivia Night on Tuesday.

Gathered around the Greg Heffley statue in the lower level of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union, students tackled 60 questions using Kahoot about Swift, her albums, her lyrics and songs, famous guest appearances in her music videos and which movies her songs appeared in. They also entered a raffle.

Jennifer Enriquez, the program manager for Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy, played a main part in planning trivia night.

“We wanted to stay very current and what’s popular with the student body so Taylor Swift seemed to be an obvious choice,” Enriquez said.

Enriquez and Stamp administration hired a company to create the questions, which made it more challenging.

There had been limited engagement in Stamp this semester, Enriquez said. “Spring into Stamp” is meant to help increase programs and participation.

The winner of the night, and a 1989 album vinyl, was Autumn Bolton, a freshman psychology and criminology double major. She came to participate in Swift trivia with her friend, Daniela Prudencio, a freshman cinema and media studies major. The two of them went to the Stamp’s movie trivia in March and wanted to come back for Swift trivia.

Bolton has been a fan of Swift since she was a kid.

“She’s really changed the game for a lot of female artists and just streaming in general,” Bolton said. “She’s had to overcome a lot of hate and everything…it’s very admirable of her to keep pushing everything.”

Bolton found the hardest round to be famous guest appearances in Swift’s music videos, while the easiest round was matching the albums to the correct songs.

Prudencio came in third place.

“I never was a crazy fan [of Swift],” Prudencio said. “So coming in, I was really not that confident, but my friend definitely helped me.”

Prudencio and another player swapped spots for third and fourth place throughout the game, so she was proud of herself when she ended on the podium. She won headphones from the raffle.

“It’s actually really fun to come [here] after class,” Prudencio said. “And even if you don’t win anything, it’s just a fun experience to be here with your friends.”

Enriquez said she did not have any expectations for turnout and believed any sort of engagement is great.

Several events in addition to trivia are being hosted as part of the “Spring into Stamp” series including crafting sessions, contests and more.

“Hopefully as we build the campaign to ‘Spring Into Stamp’ … there’s a chance that we’d be able to continue it in successive semesters,” Enriquez said.
